wow I didn't know I was so behind in my journals! [Oct. 26th, 2006|05:28 pm]
Dear Dr Piccolo-

I am writing in regards to the job posting that you had online. I would love to work with you and I think I would be an asset to your staff. I am currently studying psychology at the College of St Catherine and I would really enjoy getting some experience in the developmental psychology field. I work well with a team and I learn quickly. I understand that privacy is going to be the most important policy and I will have the utmost discretion. I attached my resume and I hope to hear from you very soon.

Thank you!

Peace [Oct. 17th, 2006|05:48 pm]
A place that always energizes me is the beach. It is such a peaceful and relaxing place. Although I don't run up and down the beach or anything like that, it is a place where I can just let everything stop bothering me. I can lay down on my towel and just fall asleep. Being on the beach is like going to a completely different world. It is stretches of beach as far as the eye can see. The ocean is beautiful and has so many different moods and colors.

After a long week of work I could go to the beach and feel re-energized. The beach is a perfect place to just let everything go and have your tension melt away. I remember the first time I went to the beach with my boyfriend. He had never been before and I've never seen something so funny! He was so happy to be there! He chased seagulls, he called them pelicans, and ran back and forth from the towel to the ocean. It was so cute.

I love going out in the ocean. The waves lift you up and in order not to get completely covered in water you have to jump with the waves. My boyfriend's first experience getting splashed in the face with a wave was hilarious. He looked at me and said, "Baby, why is it salty?" I started cracking up and said, "Baby, we are in the ocean!" He laughed really hard and said, "Oh yeah!" It was a really fun time.

Example Essay free write [Oct. 13th, 2006|10:41 am]
When I was little my grandma meant everything to me, she was a constant light in my life. Writing about her in this paper is my tribute to her because it is long overdue. When I was little she was always there to pick me up when I was sad, or listen when I needed to talk something out. She always seemed to be around and more available than my mom. As I got older she was still a constant in my life, but she was more distant because she had moved into her own place. I started seeing her less and less and I missed her presence in my life so much. My grandma passed away a little over a year ago and she is greatly missed by the whole family. She kept my family together and was a constant rock in everyone’s life.
My grandma was a strong woman. She was a wonderful and loving grandma that loved to spoil her grandchildren as much as possible. When I first got adopted she was living in Sioux City, IA with my grandpa. After my grandpa died she moved into our house with us. She lived in our basement and it was awesome to see her every day. By fourth grade she had moved into her own house. She still was not too far from our house, but I wished that she could always live with us.
My first memories of my grandma are the encouragement she always offered when I was learning new things. I always sat in a wooden desk at home learning as many new things as I could. I even have numerous pictures of it! My hair hangs down my back in a braid the way my mom always wanted it, and usually in a fishtail because it was the only braid my father could ever manage. My thick black bangs hang in my eyes and my face is scrunched in concentration as I write letters with my pencil. My legs dangle over the edge of my seat and I’m wearing my favorite jelly sandals. She always sat next to me at the table and worked carefully through everything at me. She always encouraged me and helped me to get further and further in my knowledge.

Public Spaces [Oct. 3rd, 2006|01:14 pm]
Well, I work at the MOA, Mall of America and the people there are generally pretty rude. I am a head cashier at one of the largest stores at the mall and we sell tons of prom dresses, homecoming dress, etc, not to even mention all of our other clothing. We are a female only store and sometimes it is extremely depressing to see the girls that come in. Many times its really young women, probably no older than 14 buying playboy bunny merchandise from our racks or thong underwear. Its like honey, you have barely hit puberty, I'm pretty sure you can wait a long time to wear things like that. It really depresses me to see all of the girls who come in just to buy revealing clothing. I think that this just reinforces the way we are treated by society. The mood in my store is usually pretty energetic. All of the employees are really only there to do their job, no one really loves working there. I just recently got promoted only through hard work and trying to serve people as best as I possibly can. My store is also almost always filled with people, especially on the weekends. The customers are usually very rude and treat us like lowly servants put on this planet to help them, which really grates on my nerves. My store is also completely packed with clothing for all shapes, colors and sizes. We have bright arrays of clothing that always manage to look perfect by the time we leave for the next wave of customers the next day. A lot of hard work goes into keeping the store clean and well organized. All in all, I think that my store is a nice place to shop, as long as you don't work there! (The store's name was omitted for privacy reasons!) lol

Anywhere But Here [Sep. 26th, 2006|01:08 pm]
Well considering the fact that I just traded Florida for this crappy weather, I'd probably go back there. Its just a nice solid place to be. You've got the beautiful beaches, with miles of sand and ocean to surround you. You've got the fiery red and orange sunsets on the beach that reflect on the water. The always perfectly tropical weather that is I could never get sick of. I love being in warm weather. I have never had to suffer through a hurricane so I can't say that those are particularly horrible. I also love seeing palm trees everywhere. They are just one of those universal symbols of fun with their green boughs and funny brown trunks.

Then you have the company. My two and a half year old sister, Farides, who talks a mile a minute. She is the smartest kid I've ever met! She already knows her alphabet and her numbers 1-20. She knows quite a lot of spanish, too since her mom is Colombian. My dad is just like me, we are constantly joking around about everything. He is a nice change from my more straight laced mom. My step-mom, ugh, she is a whole different story. She is definitely not my favorite person, but at least out of all the unpleasantness she gave me Farides!! And then there is my step-mom's mom who loves me more than she does. Kinda ironic how things happen sometimes. She's a cute older lady with wrinkles and a fussy, caring personality. I like her a lot and I miss our conversations completely made up of hand motions since she doesn't speak English and I don't speak Spanish.

I will probably go back there soon to visit, well, I guess January isn't that soon, but soon enough! :)

SUMMER!! [Sep. 19th, 2006|01:11 pm]
Summer is definitely my favorite time of year. I like to have no responsibilities other than to work. My summers are often uncomplicated and I don't have to deal with the pressures of school. This year I spent my summer in Florida and I could not have had it better. I have family down in Florida, my dad, step-mom, and youngest sister. It was a wonderful time for me because I haven't really had any time to get to know my little sister, she is only 2 1/2. She is so wonderful, smart and funny.

This summer represents a new beginning for me where I was able to learn a lot and grow in my life. I have had some hard times this past year and I was able to let go of a lot of resentment in my life which has really helped to change me as a person. Summer is also the warmest time of the year and I really hate being cold, which I am in the totally wrong state for that! lol

So what I am trying to say is that summer is a useful time for me to relax and refocus myself. I like to have all the time so I can balance myself back out and become the same laid back person I am when the school year first starts.
